Exercises 7-12
"Entering Formulas
and Formatting a Spreadsheet"
DAY 7
Type the terms for Lesson 2 (Exercises 7-12)
Do Exercise 7 - Formula Basics-
Reminder: cell references NOT cell
values are entered into a formula.
Within a formula (A5+B5)*C5 the addition within the parentheses will be
calculated before the multiplication.
In this example A5+B5*C5 the multiplication will be calculated before
the addition.
Staple XL07 to the top of OXL07
and write what it is and what you learned and formulas used. Always..Name, Date, Hour. & File Name.
TIP:
+ = addition
- = subtraction
* = multiplication
/ = division
^ = exponentiation
Read and take notes over pages
205-207.
DAY 8

letter to select the entire column (all 65,536 rows).

with different formats and work with fonts and font sizes
Staple XL09 to the top of OXL09
and write what it is and what you learned.
Always..Name, Date, Hour, & File Name.
TIPS: When font size is increased and the column is too narrow to display
the numbers, pound signs (####) display in the cell.
Once a cell or range of cells is
selected, formatting changes can be applied.
To select columns b-f, drag the
mouse across the column letters b through f to select all the cells in the
columns.
Remember to use the "Select
All" button so that the font change can be made for the entire worksheet
(even cells not yet filled).
Read and take notes over pages
212-215.
DAY 10
Do Exercise 10 - Copy and paste data and formulas and
printing an open worksheet.
Staple XL10 to the top of OXL10
and write what it is and what you learned.
Always..Name, Date, Hour, & File Name.
TIPS: relative cell referencing
is when a formula is copied from one cell to another, it automatically
adjusts. For example, =B4+B5 in column
B would become =C4+C5 when copied to column C.
An absolute cell reference is
when the formula remains constant when it is copied. This is accomplished by adding a $ sign before both the column
letter and row number. For example,
=$B$4+$B$5 copied into column C would remain the same. The B's would not change do C's.
The FILL HANDLE is located in
the bottom right corner of the cell.
The illustration displays the
formula in H7, however your screen will display the answer.
In Office 2000, you can copy and
collect up to 12 objects on the office clipboard. When you choose the Paste command, the last item copied to the
Clipboard will be pasted in the destination cell. Use the Clipboard toolbar to choose a previous selection.
If your quantity, EXAMPLE: 30 turns into 30E-11 try this:
For some reason the custom text
format was selected...... go back to
the format and then go into format that cell or range..depending on where it is
happening and redefine what type of format you want for those cells....the custom
(special) format is good for certain things, but it always redefines cells when
you don't want it to. I sure hope that
this makes sense. Let me know!
Okay! Here it is. The column f
should be formatted to a number instead of custom. Put it to zero decimal
point. If you are in that cell and right click, you can format from there too.
Set column e to a dollar amount and then multiplied out. Copy the formula down so now when you enter
the rest of the information, it will calculate automatically and give you a
total at the bottom.
Always do a print preview before
printing!!!!! This reduces printing
errors and wasted paper!
Read and take notes over pages
216-219.
